Our Past Projects The Saltire Society has been around for nearly 85 years and has always worked to promote under-celebrated areas of Scottish Life. When we see these areas flourish, we take a step back and allow the ecosystem we have encouraged to do it’s work. While it can be sad to step away, we prioritise using our funds to bring to light Scotland’s latest achievements and nurturing progress. Until 2019 we ran the Saltire Civil Engineering Awards which became unnecessary when CECA and ICE began their own Awards which covered the same areas. In 2011, the Society ran its last National Scottish Song competition when the place of school choirs had been firmly re-established (with quite a lot of help from Glee). Between 1999 and 2005, we celebrated Scottish Filmmaking and supported the creators of new work with prizes of £1000.
