Mairi Kidd has been appointed as Director of The Saltire Society. She will take up the role in June 2024, leading on delivery of the Society’s programmes championing the arts and culture of Scotland. She brings considerable experience from her previous roles at Creative Scotland providing strategic leadership for literature, languages and publishing, as CEO of Moat Brae and of Seven Stories, and as Managing Director of children’s book publisher Barrington Stoke.

Susan Garnsworthy, Convenor of The Saltire Society Council said: I am very pleased that Mairi Kidd will be the new Director of the Saltire Society.  She brings both great enthusiasm for the Saltire Society's work but also strong direct experience of the arts and cultural sector which combined with her very considerable skills and interests will enable us to focus on delivering the Saltire Society's refreshed vision and mission.

Mairi Kidd said: “I am thrilled to join the Saltire Society at this exciting but undoubtedly challenging time for arts and culture. The Society’s commitment to championing Scottish culture, including its indigenous languages, reflects my own belief in the importance of cultural confidence and engagement. I greatly look forward to helping shape the future programmes of the Society to help develop the conditions for Scotland’s arts and culture to thrive and for people all across society to benefit."

We wish Mairi the best of luck in her new post!
