Janice Parker has been active in the world of dance development for almost 40 years. An award-winning, independent, choreographer and dance-maker based in Edinburgh she is artistic director of Janice Parker Projects. Known as a leader in art-led and socially-engaged practice, she brings the worlds of community and professional dance together, and is also a leading contributor to the development of disability-led dance.

Janice promotes the value of different aesthetics and movement vocabularies and believes in the contribution of the non-traditionally trained body to contemporary forms of dance and performance. She takes people beyond their expectations of themselves and of each other, is passionate about bringing people into body and the potential of movement to create change and to build resilience and community.

Working in partnership and responsively, to people, place and context, Janice moves across art-forms, is often quiet and on the margins, questions the status-quo and creates a body of work that is hugely diverse in form, structure and content.

Her current work includes a collaboration with 4 professional dancers from the Variety Era; an installation-based performance that shares 40 years of practice; a new duet with stories and stones; mentoring, nurturing and supporting the next generation of dance-artists and leaders in dance; and engaging quietly with research on new models of elderly care. Janice is also a trustee of Luminate, Scotland’s creative ageing organisation.
