Why join the Saltire Society

Members of the Saltire Society join a movement celebrating and standing up for Scottish culture. Membership is primarily a means of supporting the broader mission of the Society, which was established to champion Scottish culture at a point at which its founders feared the loss of the country's distinct cultural inheritance. We continue to work to support Scottish culture against new and continuing challenges in the present day, delivering programmes with our members' support that benefit artists, creatives and the public, such as Scotland's National Book Awards and the Fletcher of Saltoun Awards.

A chance to connect while supporting culture

Membership offers a chance to connect with people who share similar interests at in-person and online events providing food for thought and inspiration from artists and thinkers. Our members come from all walks of life, diverse backgrounds and have a range of varied political views. There is always something interesting to talk about.

There are opportunities to get involved in campaigning and advocacy for the arts, to help support a range of prizes recognising outstanding contributions to Scottish culture and to help us to support artists in other ways.

Connect with your local community

Our members share a passion and love of Scottish culture. In communities across Scotland, members come together to share this passion. This is a chance to connect with people who share common interests, and these interests inform branch programmes.

Branches meet regularly in person in Kirriemuir, Glasgow and Edinburgh. The Aberdeen and North East branch meets regularly by Zoom with some in-person get-togethers, and the Highland branch meets for special events, usually in Inverness. All members are welcome at any branch events.
