As part of this virtual residency Saltire members and others had the chance to meet Katrina online on 16 April and hear her talk about the links between her life and work, and Scotland. She told us about her time as a volunteer medic in Samoa where Robert Louis Stevenson’s memory is cherished as ‘Tusitala’ or ‘teller of tales’, and how this influenced her forthcoming novel Tsunami. She also talked about The Bones (Busybird Publishing, 2023) her dark thriller exploring use and retention of human remains for medical study and exhibition, which ties into Scotland’s own dark history in this regard.
