Still in bed with an elephant

Still in bed with an elephant
This is a study of Scotland´s relations with England, which is the elephant in question. Following the 1997 Referendum, it was felt to be imperative to bring out a new edition of the book, supplemented by recent articles and lectures. Not only does it give an account of the cultural history of Scotland, but it gathers together individual studies of writers such as Sir Walter Scott and Robert Burns as well as political figures such as Andrew Fletcher of Saltoun and Sir John Clerk of Penicuik. This book brings out the distinctive contribution made by Scottish culture to world civilisation, and removes some myths and misunderstandings. In a political context it makes a powerfiil case for Scottish independence as a part of a world-wide need to conserve individuality and diversity
