Press release

The results can be viewed below.
Background: This award was established in 1937 to identify high quality housing
developments. At the time the panel were concerned about Scottish vernacular and
they rewarded projects that they felt contributed to keeping the traditions of rural
house building alive.
Over the last 65 years the concerns of the panel have changed with the requirements
of the housing market and broader social and political concerns. As more of the
population look for a 'home for life' and adapt that home to suit their lifestyle
at various points in their life, architects and builders are being called upon to
find creative solutions to extension and conversion problems.
The 2007 Awards were presented in The Lighthouse, Glasgow on November 12th. Press release
(Word document).
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
The Awards
1. Award-winning entries will receive an illuminated diploma and a plaque for attachment to the building. Commended entries will receive an illuminated diploma. Details of all shortlisted entries will be posted on the Society's website and contribute to forming an archive of housing in Scotland.
2. A builder of award-winning or commended housing may receive an additional award on the recommendation of the Chartered Institute of Building.
3. The panel wishes to recognise excellence and innovation in housing design, and particularly projects that create a sense of place and identity within the environment in which they are located.
The projects may consist of:
o High Density Housing - over 50 dwellings per hectare
o Low Density Housing - 20 to 50 dwellings per hectare
o Small Works.
All three categories will be open to public and private works.
Entry Requirements
4. Entries are restricted to work completed in Scotland in 2008.
5. Entries may be submitted by owners, builders, developers, architects, architectural technicians, public or semi-public bodies, and individuals who have commissioned works in Scotland.
6. Entry Fee: £50.00 (including VAT)
7. A well designed housing or residential project will acknowledge its situation, be fit for purpose, coherent, adaptable, sustainable in the widest sense and, last but not least, bring delight to its users and enhance the quality of their lives.
8. In "Firm Foundations", the recent public consultation on housing by the Scottish Government, concern was expressed about the quality and impact of residential developments. The Panel shares this concern and would welcome submissions from the private sector and others that:
o Involve multiple tenures
o Involve multiple housing providers
o Address place-making
o Address sustainability
9. A clearly distinct stage of a large development which has already received an award is eligible for an extension award.
10. While all types of construction will be considered, the Panel wishes to encourage good design in timber frame housing.
How to Enter
11. Entry form and information sheets 1, 2, & 3 should be completed and electronically submitted on CD together with 2 sets of drawings and images at 300dpi and 72dpi resolution respectively, making them suitable for exhibition, publication, archiving, and posting on The Saltire Society website.
The CD should contain:

site layout plan
block plans
house/flat layout plans
elevations, sections etc
o Photographs:
a total of no more than 6 at 300dpi (tiff) and
72dpi (tiff) resolutions.
o Information Sheet 1:
list of the project team
o Information Sheet 2:
a description of the project, covering the client's brief, features of the site,
numbers and mix of dwelling types and house design, on a single A4 sheet:
CDs should be clearly labelled with the year of your submission, the name of the
entrant and the title of the project.
Accompanying the CD, entrants must also supply a clearly-titled loose leaf A4 file
containing paper copies of all the entry material, including computer prints of the
photographs.
12. The Saltire Society may wish to retain all entry material for record,
publication or exhibition purposes, including posting on the Society's website.
Entrants should make themselves and their team aware that, by way of entry, they
