Ian Arnott - Architect
DA  DipTP  RSA  RIBA  FRIAS 
Educated at Galashiels Academy, School of Architecture, Edinburgh College of Art; School of Town and Country Planning and Edinburgh College of Art.  Awarded the Andrew Grant Scholarships (3);  Post–graduate Scholarship to study Town Planning.
From 1955-1957 Ian was a Flying Officer with the Royal Air Force.  He then worked as a Project Architect with Robert Matthew & Johnson-Marshall.  Ian was the Senior Project Architect at Eric Hall & Partners before founding Campbell & Arnott with William Campbell in 1962. 
He retired as Chairman of Campbell & Arnott Ltd in 1994 and undertook consultancy work; arbitrations; expert witness work; assessor in awards and competitions. Ian has won numerous awards including the Royal Scottish Academy Gold Medal for Architecture, ten Civic Trust Awards, one RIBA Award, two EAA Awards and two Saltire Society Housing Awards.


Leslie Mitchell
Professor Leslie Mitchell retired as Head of the Schools of Design & Applied Arts and Visual Communication in July 2008 after 36 years teaching at eca. He started teaching First Year Design in 1972, was made a senior lecturer in 1980, became Head of Interior Design in 1983 and also Head of Furniture Design in 1987 and was appointed Head of Design in 1998. Les delivered the professional practice strand and business studies to all design students for twenty years.

Les has maintained a design practice for all of his professional life and has worked in interior design for aircraft, retail, theatre and museum projects. He recently completed a furniture standards project for seating and allied furniture for Forest Enterprise, Scotland, formerly the Forestry Commission. He was made a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers and a Freeman of the City of London.

Recently eca bestowed the title Emeritus to mark Les’s contribution to the College and in light of his continued association as an international academic ambassador.

Les Mitchell is retained by the European Universities Association and is a subject specialist in Art and Design, involved in curricula and institutional reviews which have included Estonia, Serbia, Slovakia and Portugal. He is currently supervising PhD students and is an external examiner in Singapore for the University of Wales, following 20 years experience as an external examiner at Hereford College of Art, Inchbald School of Design, London, University of Central England, now Birmingham City University, Birmingham, IVE and SHAPE in Hong Kong, La Salle College of Art, Singapore and Domus Academy, Milan.

Les was a consultant specialist advisor (crafts) to the Arts Council of Scotland, is a trustee of Gunsgreen House.


Roan Rutherford - Architect
PhD, Msc, B Arch, RIBA, FRIAS, MRTPI, AABC & RIAS (Class A) Conservation Accredited, RIAS Sustainable Design Accreditation Director.  Roan has been responsible for many of the Practice's award winning residential buildings in Scotland and has assisted in the development of exemplar social housing types for ‘Housing for Varying Needs.’ He is responsible for promoting and maintaining architectural standards within the Glasgow practice and his project experience is reflected predominantly in large scale social housing and conservation projects. He has designed numerous housing schemes in Ayr and across Scotland, and was also responsible for the conservation and restoration of the historic island of St Kilda.  He has specialist accreditation in Sustainability and Conservation and is actively involved in advising on issues relating to social housing and conservation throughout Scotland. He is also a chartered town planner.
